Today in History…
For this assignment, we had to do it on a person who was either born or died on the day that I wrote this post. I checked through all the names but none rung a bell except Walter Raleigh. I asked my mom and she said that she knew who he was. Even my mom remembered his name so I thought that I ought to do the post on him. Today is the day that he died in history in the year 1618. Sir Walter Raleigh is a very important person in history. He is famed for establishing the 2nd English comony in the New World on June 4, 1584 at Roanoke Island in North Carolina. Without him as well as other explorers and settlers, there would be no America. He paved the way for America to be settled and be what it is today. He explored a bit of South America and then published a book called The Discovery of Guiana. He then wrote another book called The History of the World. He was also considered one of the most foremost authors of that era. Raleigh wrote many poems including What is Our Life and The Lie. As you can see, Sir Walter Raleigh has made many contributions to the world.
