The best thing about living in Connecticut is probably snow and the season Fall. I love how the snow falling in the Winter is so peaceful, sitting by the fireplace and unwrapping presents on Christmas. I also love going outside and playing in the snow. My brother and I make snowmen, snow angels, snow forts and have snowball fights. The snow is one of my main highlights for living in the Northwest of the United States. (But I hate the cold weather!) Another one of my favorite things about living in Connecticut, is Autumn/Fall. I love the variety of colors on the trees rather than just the plain green. They are all so beautiful and it is a shame for them to fall when Winter comes around.

Our school is unique because most (emphasis on the word most!) teachers all are very kind and they have a good sense of humor. Not one of my teachers in elementary school (Grades 1-5) had a sense of humor at all. Most of them were kind, but then I got some of them that were not so kind. Every single one of the teachers I have had in middle school (Grades 6-8) were all kind. All of my favorite teachers have come from our middle school. They all have a good sense of humor, which makes them very likeable and fun to learn from. I love the teachers at our school and that is what I think makes our school very unique.

Tim Holt recently wrote a blog post basically asking: Why should we use technology? Our teacher thought that someone should answer this from a kid’s perspective. So here we are to answer his question!

We should use technology because it is our future. We are rapidly advancing in technology every day. Every day, something new is being produced. This means that it is possible that the means of technology that people used in their childhoods could be replaced by some new means. People need to be prepared for a change in “culture”. For example: Only two decades ago, no one used computers for the things that we use them for today. (Computers couldn’t even do those types of things that we do today!) Before blogs, wikis, podcasts, etc, pencil and paper was one of the few ways to communicate. Now we have all sorts of technology to do that and much more! If we didn’t grasp the technology we have in the world today and the upcoming technology, then we would be left in the dust along with our technology from many years ago. It is important because when we do apply for a job in the future, we won’t be applying for a job that just uses paper and pencil, but a job that grasps technology. The technology in jobs and in schools is changing constantly, and we need to be prepared to face new technology. Because we are one of the few classes to use technology and computers in the classroom, we are constantly being watched from viewers all over the world. Our wiki has had a large number of views from people all over the world from France, Hawaii and Brazil! We are like cells under a microscope or “guinea pigs” as our teacher calls us. We are just constantly viewed as a result of using this technology within the classroom. A lot of other teachers that are looking for ideas to incorporate technology with learning are inspired by our uses of technology. Technology is a huge part of our American culture. Without it, we would honestly not be as efficient.

Several weeks ago, we asked our family and friends what the American Flag symbolized to them. There was a variety of answers between the different age groups. Now we are going to ask our blogging buddies from different countries to see what they think of when they hear the words “United States” and what symbols can they think of that represent the United States. Then we will compare the different answers that they gave. I asked Ryan S. from Canada as well as two other people, but unfortunately, they never responded!!!

Next year our entire eighth grade will be moving to high school (unless they stay back). I have mixed feelings on going to high school and I am sure that everyone feels pretty much the same way. Some of the different dreams that I hope to accompish include grades. I am an A student, but this year I have a B in Algebra. I am mostly worried about Honors Geometry (In which I am in). Also in the other subjects I have a fear of presenting in front of people who I do not know well. This happened to me this year. I had no one that I honestly knew that well. Aside from academics, I am a bit timid because two of my best friends are most likely going to other schools. I am looking forward to the many new freedoms, because I was able to walk around the cruise that I was on freely, and it felt good that I was able to have some freedoms. I also like the idea of biology and walking to all the different classes. I have never been able to do biology before because none of my teachers have gotten into dissection and things of that sort. I like the freedom of walking around the building and switching classes that may be on the opposite end of the school. On the other side of that although, I am a bit afraid that I will not be able to find my classes. Overall, I wish that I will be successful in high school and that I will not have any worries after being there for a while.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged of their color but by the content of their character”. This is a quote that is part of a speech that will make history forever. The man who stated this… Martin Luther King Jr. This upcoming Monday on the 21st of January, is a day to remember Martin Luther King and all of his acts that made history. The 21st, on which we honor King, is near his birthdate. The reason that we honor him because he is one of the greatest historical figures in America. He won a Nobel Peace Prize for all of his efforts to end segregation, racial discrimination and any other violent acts. He also fought for African American Civil Rights which should be applauded. The point of this is to honor all that he has done for us and understand how America would have been much different and nothing more than that reason. If this national holiday was celebrated in school, it would be more effective. Most young children may not even think about the reason why they do not have school on that particular day. In school, the kids may have someone who at least reminds them why they should be celebrating and maybe do an activity on Martin Luther King.

I recently watched a video that was entitled “The Essay”. I thought that this was a great video/commercial. I thought that this was a touching video and it was quite interesting. I really enjoyed this video. It shows that everything that is impossible today, can always be possible in the future. The video showed a young school girl that had plans for a new type of phone that could take pictures, watch videos and fit in your pocket. I think that this video shows that the people who fuel our future and make our future are those of younger generations and children in society. I thought it was great that this girl kept on with her dream and others make it possible for us to have this technology despite what others thought about their dreams. I recommend this video to everyone and give word to everyone to believe in their dreams and never give up.

I think that the people who had my greatest influence on my life were my friends from last year. Before I met them last year, I was a very shy and a person who didn’t really speak much. My friends last year were such great friends and I think that they had to do greatly with the influence. They made me definitely much much more outgoing and talkative. Right now I could probably make friends with a rock if I truly wanted to.
